A Government of Infringement.
The Liberal government has long paid lip service to reconciliation while continuously eroding Indigenous rights. With each passing year, their actions show a blatant disregard for our self-governance, sovereignty, and constitutionally protected freedoms. Now, with their planned post-election ban on SKS rifles—one of the most commonly used firearms in Indigenous communities—they have crossed yet another line.
No Consent, No Consultation—Only Control
Indigenous hunting rights are not a privilege granted by the federal government; they are inherent, affirmed by treaty and protected under Section 35 of the Constitution. Yet time and time again, Ottawa moves to infringe on these rights without consultation or consent, violating the very principles they claim to uphold. The attempted seizure of legally owned firearms is not about safety—it’s about control. It’s about stripping away the tools we use to provide for our families, exercise our traditions, and uphold our way of life.
A Direct Attack on Self-Governance
Self-governance means determining our own future, managing our own affairs, and ensuring our communities have the means to sustain themselves. The disarmament of Indigenous hunters under the guise of “gun control” is a direct assault on our ability to sustain ourselves outside government dependency. This is not just another Liberal overreach—it’s an act of war against Indigenous sovereignty.
Where Does It End?
What starts with an SKS ban will not stop there. Every step taken to strip away Indigenous self-reliance brings us closer to a totalitarian system where our rights exist only at the whim of politicians in Ottawa. Every time we comply, the government moves the goalposts. Today, it’s hunting rifles. Tomorrow, it’s our land, our industries, our resources, our ability to even exist independently.
The Time to Resist is Now
We must stand firm against this latest attack on our rights. This is about more than just a firearm ban—it’s about the future of Indigenous sovereignty in Canada. If the Liberal government is willing to violate our rights this blatantly, what will stop them from taking even more?
Indigenous leaders, rights advocates, and community members must come together to oppose this encroachment before it's too late. This is not the time for silence or compliance—it's the time for action.
Our rights are not up for negotiation. Our sovereignty is not up for debate. And our ability to provide for ourselves will not be dictated by bureaucrats in Ottawa.
It’s time to send a clear message:
Hands off our rights. Hands off our traditions. Hands off our future.
